What is Sequal?

The Sequal Trust was founded over thirty years ago by a group of farsighted individuals, who felt that disability shouldn’t limit the ability to communicate.  Today, with the advancement of technology, there is even more scope to tailor a communication aid to suit individual needs.

Our Patron’s include HRH The Princess Michael of Kent and Professor Stephen Hawkins, Tom Clarke JP MP and Robert Parry.

Our president is the Hon Nigel Havers.

What does Sequal do?

The Sequal Trust fundraises on behalf of its members to provide a communication aid, which can be in the form of a specialised computer system, voice synthesiser to relay pre-recorded messages, and many other items of communication equipment.
In addition to providing equipment on a “life long free loan basis”, the Sequal Trust also maintains and repairs the equipment as the need arises as well as up grading when necessary.  Membership is not restricted by age, race, gender or social background.  The criteria being speech and/or movement difficulties associated with many types of disability. (All our Trustees are severely disabled).  Our Assessment and Welfare Officer arranges a personal home visit to members in most instances to establish their individual needs.

Communication:

This plays a vital role in the lives of the people we help.  It is the key that enables the shackles of disability to be discarded and help to improve the quality of life, educational prospects and frequently providing an opportunity to gain employment.

The Future:

The IT revolution can help redress the balance when a disability or accident impairs the natural gift of communication.  It is our intention to be unremitting in our efforts to provide this vital equipment for our members with severe speech and movement difficulties for as long as the need exists.
